Buster had a great morning at the park last Tuesday.
He was fine in the evening.
On Wednesday morning he was not himself. The vet discovered that he had
a ruptured tumor on the spleen.
He was put to sleep that day rather than subject him to painful and almost certainly futile treatment.
He was such a good pal.
He always made me smile.

Dear Elizabeth, I read yesterday on Daryl's blog with great sadness that adorable Buster has passed away. My heart aches for you, Robert and all the family. Buster was such a special and sweet dear companion and I know you both are so very sad with his loss. Buster was lucky to have shared his life with you, Robert and yours and I know you all will miss him terribly. Buster brought to me so much joy, I loved seeing photos of him at your home, in the park with his friends and walking around with you. Buster will be sorely missed...
ReplyDeleteSending much love and hugs.
Thank you, dear Sonia. Like Flora, he will always be remembered with joy.
DeleteI friend of mine, Karin, wrote on a post about my dearest Flora: "Can I miss a dog I never actually met? Yes, yes, I can. I miss Flora, and I love your beautiful photos so much." I say the same about dearest Buster. Adorable Buster will be always in my heart and in my memory...
DeleteI just know that all the Dogs Above will be having a fine time with Buster & will keep a good watch over him. He was such a character! But I am very sad for you & your family, Elizabeth .... it's so, so hard when our best pals leave us. ReplyDeleteHe was a great representative of his species and Ramses and I always enjoyed his commentary on his life.
You provided him with a wonderful life and I'm sure he would have told you "Thanks for everything, I had a great time" if he could talk.
I know the suddenness of this is a shock as is the heartbreaking decision you had to make. I've been there.
I will miss his reflections on life and his sharing adventures with Knutty and all the rest of his pals.
Thank you so much for sharing him with us.
With love and sincere condolences from Ramses and Me.
Thank you so much.

ReplyDeletehow he enjoyed life. There are no more words, just sad.
Elizabeth, I'm so sorry to hear that Buster is no longer with us. What a truly special, wonderful dog. I enjoyed all of his blog posts and shared them with my husband, son and others. There's nothing like a dog friend with whom to share life. I was incredibly lucky to have that once! My condolences.
ReplyDeleteSuch sad news, Elizabeth. Your medium was a blog but you made a buoyant space in me that Buster inhabited. Ah, life.

ReplyDeleteWe were so sad to read about Buster's sudden passing. He was a delight and we loved reading about him and all his pals. We will miss him and send you our love and sympathy for his loss. Recently we lost our two much-loved dogs and know what a big hole in your heart they leave when they depart. But the memories of their quirks and special behaviors will be with you always.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth, for sharing Buster with us. We hope that your sadness will be relieved a little by knowing how much joy Buster brought to your readers. Condolences to you, your family and to all of Buster's friends.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Buster is sadly missed. Still seem to 'see' him around the place.
DeleteYou, sadly, understand exactly what we feel! Our sympathies to you.
very sorry to hear about buster. I looked forward to reading the entries about him because he was almost identical to the dog I had while growing up - Max. Max was with us for 14 years, and it's been 30 years since he was gone. I bet Max and Buster would have gotten along famously :) So sorry for your loss. I cried for a week straight after I heard about Max being ill and not making it (I was away at college).
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry we didn't meet before - I am stopping by from Mein Leben mit meinen Tieren. I am very sorry to hear of Buster's passing.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Monty and Harlow
What?! Buster passed away? Noooooo!
ReplyDeleteI've always read his blog with smile on my face, but very sad now.
I will miss him.
Oh, Elizabeth, I am so sorry! I lost Ozzy very suddenly also and I just haven't been able to get myself straight since. Buster's blog brought me a lot of joy. I will miss his posts of NYC and the pictures of all his friends at the park. I send you my deepest condolences. Love, Nancy in Penna. (Ozzy The Poodle's mom)
ReplyDeleteSo very sad to hear about poor Ozzy. I never really realized how long the mourning process is. You must miss Ozzy so much.
DeleteOur last dog before Buster, Skippy, was put to sleep the week of his 16th birthday when he had really had a good long life. Buster was only seven. It's been over a month now and I still look for him every day. So sending lots of love to you and your family, love
Elizabeth and family.
I am just finding out about this... I am so sorry for your loss. I know first hand, the love of a fur baby. My heart breaks for you. Buster was so lucky to have a family like yours. You and your family will be in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteLove you Buster... hope you get to meet my Shamos, and Sadie! xoxo
Thank you!
DeleteShamos and Sadie and Buster will live on in our happy memories of them!
I'm so very sorry for your loss of Buster. I just learned of his passing. I enjoyed checking in on his adventures over the years. I hope that his blog inspired, and will continue to inspire, others to adopt dogs in need of a safe and loving forever home such as Buster had. My condolences.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words from Australia.
DeleteYes, adoption is the way to go!
So many lovely animals out there in need of homes.
We miss Buster so - even after two months have passed!
Oh, no!! I just came to see what Buster and beloved friends were up to lately because he wasn't blogging much in the past months, only to find this heartwrenching news. Dear Buster, I loved you so. You, Knutty, Biggie, Charlotte and all the others play on in the park of my heart forever. So very sorry for your sweet parents and sister. I miss you. xo
ReplyDeleteDear Liz
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words.
Yes, we miss dear Buster every day. I do still see lots of his friends since they live locally.
All best wishes.
I still miss Buster and think about him so often. I'm sure it's not half as much as you miss him, though.
